That seems to be the theme of the day for us today.
We spent the better part of the morning driving around town gathering the supplies we need to do our first oil change on the engines. This is something that we haven’t done yet and need to do before taking her out again. We’ve been sort of putting it off since, let’s be honest… we have no clue how to do it.
We were in West Marine getting the oil and decided to ask an associate if that was the right type just in case. We know we needed 15W-40, but there were several different types and we were not sure exactly which type was needed. Glad we asked because the one we were holding wasn’t the right type. He looked at us with an odd look that read “Good luck with that, buddy. You clearly have no clue what the hell you’re doing” before walking away. We’ve been getting all sorts of tips from other boaters too, which have confused the heck out of us and added to the anxiety since everyone has their own way of doing it and seem to know so much. We can always consult the manual I suppose, but would really like to find a good YouTube video instead.
Another hurdle of the day was finding a place to fix the aluminum propane tanks we have on board. We wanted to get them checked out and refilled since we noticed the one has a small leak somewhere. These things are about $250 a pop, and last a lot longer than the typical steel ones, so we’re trying to keep them in tip top shape. After being turned away from 2 boat stores that sell them but don’t repair them, we decided to check out a commercial propane shop a few miles away. Finally found the place and turns out they had closed 2 hours before. Whomp Whomp.
So now we’re back at the boat with our original two propane tanks and a huge case of performance anxiety about changing the oil. Oh, and I have to figure out the laundry situation since we have quite a few baskets piling up. We’re ready to say “screw it all” and go sit by the pool for a few hours…
