Interior Accommodations

Entering below decks via the gently sloped companionway,  you'll find an elegant and functional space that utilizes the entire width of the beam and feels very large for a boat under 50'.  The combination of hull windows, ports and overhead hatches will ensure there is plenty of natural light and ventilation throughout. To starboard is the dinette (which will convert to a berth if needed), as well as the day head.  To port is the galley and, straight settee and forward facing nav station.  There are plenty of storage options via overhead and under seat cabinets and a large bookcase on the forward bulkhead. Overall headroom is a generous 6'5".

Forward is the owners cabin with a centerline queen bed, accessible from either side, so no more waking up or crawling over your partner when you get out of bed. His/hers hanging lockers, a large storage drawer under the bed and dedicated vanity area.  The traditional head layout has been split into two separate spaces - to starboard is a wet head with a shower, sink and bench and to port is the dry head with toilet and sink. Finally a design that makes sense! The innovative stepped chine hull really gives this area generous space, much more than older designs.

The two aft cabins feature a double bed, hanging lockers, storage cubbies and several fixed and opening windows for light & ventilation.  The starboard cabin has access to the day head via a private door.

The galley is purposefully laid out and has excellent storage for all those provisions needed for extended time on the boat.  There is a front loading fridge as well as a top loading freezer, so plenty of room to stock up before heading to someplace remote. A two burner stove / oven combo, double sink and good countertop space complete the galley.

Exterior Accommodations

Utilizing the full width of the beam that carries all the way aft, the cockpit on the 46.1 feels huge, with plenty of room for everyone to spread out and pick their favorite seat.  A unique design to the 46.1 are the lounge pads beneath the dodger - the perfect place to tuck away out of the wind and maybe catch a nap on calm days at sea. However, just because it feels big doesn't mean that it's hard to handle.  All lines are lead completely aft to the helm stations so the captain has full control and can make sail adjustments without disturbing guests lounging in the cockpit. The navigation package has been upgraded to include chart plotters at both helms, so all navigational information including charts, autopilot controls and wind/depth speed is accessible from either helm. Help from the bowthruster makes docking and maneuvering in tight spaces easy.

Instead of a traditional layout where a 46' boat would be 44' of useable space with a 2' fixed swim platform, the revolutionary design of the electric folding swim platform captures the full length of the boat and deploys close to the waterline for easy boarding of the included tender or paddle boards.

Safety onboard is always a priority. The deck of the 46.1 is wide and flat, which allows you to move from the cockpit to the bow with minimal obstructions.  All hatches are flush mounted and handrails are strategically placed to further eliminate tripping hazards. Forward, a large sail locker can stow spare sails, hooks and fenders.

In preparation for the Annapolis to Newport Race, her owners made several safety additions required by the race to ensure safety at sea. Having made several offshore trips between Annapolis and New England, her safety and stability have been tested and proven as exceptional. However, Characters is an ICW friendly rig (63'6") and a shoal draft (5'9"), which means you can go the Intercostal if weather does not permit going offshore.

Manufacturer Provided Description

The Oceanis 46.1 boasts all the features of a large cruising yacht, with a rare balance between elegance, usable space and performance. Her stepped hull opens up an incredible amount of space inside and yet her seakeeping performance is still impressive. A large number of clever customizable fittings make her easy to sail and pleasantly comfortable.

Apart from her performance at sea and the huge amount of space that set this boat apart, this architecture makes optimal use of the cockpit beam. An incredibly efficient deck plan makes her wonderfully safe and easy to use. The furling mast, self-tailing jib and all the halyards and sheets brought back to a single winch at each of the helm stations, make maneuvering simple when short-handed sailing.
