Going into this, we had never owned a sailboat before. We … More had never even sailed one. Like most first time buyers, we were excited, but we also had a million questions and a lot to learn. Naturally, after buying an older sailboat, we’ve also run into our fair share of unexpected issues.
What has impressed me the most is that Tim didn’t disappear after the sale was complete. In today’s world, that’s pretty rare.
From day one and even after we took ownership, Tim has continued to check in on us. He’s called me out of the blue just to ask how everything is going, offered advice whenever I’ve run into a problem, helped troubleshoot issues, answered countless questions, and has always been willing to point me in the right direction. He’s even offered to help us learn how to sail and become more comfortable with the boat.
The biggest thing I’ve learned about Tim is that he genuinely cares about people. I never once felt like I was just another commission or another sale. In fact, I don’t think he’s motivated by money nearly as much as he’s motivated by helping someone succeed. When someone is good to him, he goes out of his way to return that kindness. He truly wants first time boat owners to enjoy the experience and feel confident instead of overwhelmed.
As we’ve gotten to know each other, I’ve learned that he’s just an incredibly down to earth person. There’s no ego, no talking down to you because you’re new, and no making sailing seem more complicated than it has to be. He explains things in a way that actually makes sense, talks to you like a normal person, and welcomes you into the sailing community with open arms. As someone completely new to boating, that has meant more to me than I can put into words.
Over the past few months, Tim has become more than just the broker who sold us our boat. He’s become someone I consider a friend and someone I’m genuinely looking forward to sailing with in the future.
